Apropos a news item "0.35 MMT of sugar import tender documents suit particulars refinery" carried by Business Recorder on 19.1.2010. It is clarified that the above news is baseless, unfounded and have no facts. No tender documents in respect of 0.35 MMT of sugar import has so far been issued by the TCP. The TCP has only issued tenders notice in the press inviting bids from the foreign pre-qualification/non pre-qualified sugar suppliers.

"The allegation that the tender document is tailored for a particular Dubai-based refinery is patently wrong. The TCP has always imported the commodity on the specifications provided by Pakistan Standard & Quality Control Authority (PS&QCA), a body working under Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of Pakistan. The present import of sugar will also be made on the specifications provided by the Government of Pakistan.

"The TCP is not authorised to change specifications approved by the Government of Pakistan and it shall make imports exactly as per the specifications of PS&QCA. The blame regarding manipulation of quantity and quality and cartelization in connivance with the stakeholders is patently false and misleading. The tender is open for all pre-qualified/non pre-qualified suppliers/producers and the terms and conditions for all the suppliers are one and the same," the clarification concluded.
